Number 5, one of nine individual characters finds himself at the centre of the assembly. He is only one of equals but somehow holds his own at he centre of the decimal system.

The Effects of College Green
Pulped paper documents, the figures 1 to 9 set within squared off ‘0’s and the space frame were made entirely from materials saved from 30 College Green, Bristol.
Then came rediscovered added colour!
Nine Square Noughts
This composition of nine square noughts seems to carry religious overtones without reverting to the particular iconography or symbols of established world religions, a sort of crucifix for Humanists.
Barnet, Mark & Jasper fit a Saab 900, (Original Model)
The format and apparent content relate to the work of the celebrated New York painters working in the mid 20th century : Barnet Newman, Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns.
Semiotic Fluid
The Number 5, only just recognisable, floats within a solid wooden frame, itself seated within a heavy gilt frame. The physical natures of these surrounds give substance and texture to a single linguistic, adstract idea.
The One Light
It could reasonably be argued that a single, upright, line of light might represent the moment of the Jesus’s birth – An untroubled, supine body wrapped up comfortably, arms not extended, lying in a manger.
The Beginning and the Whole
Pulped paper documents from an earlier life bear the impression of the largest single unit number, ‘9′.
Embryonic in form, this symbol contains the whole sequence of informational units that precede it.
O.D.J.Band Box
The thought that the members of a successful and renowned musical ensemble would not always play together concerned young AMA. That something so seminal might not adhere to its component parts seemed impossible.
Painting History . . . A
A painting that was created by default. ‘Painting History – A’ is a stylized composition based on the year of the artist’s birth; trial paint colours from various other works being added over a period of six years.
Number 5 is Taking Shape
A year later in May 1997, a son, Antoine Zola, was born; AMA became a father for the first time. All this work with 0s, 1s, 5s & 9s was paying off !
