The Effects of College Green
Pulped paper documents, the figures 1 to 9 set within squared off ‘0’s and the space frame were made entirely from materials saved from 30 College Green, Bristol.

Nine Square Noughts
This composition of nine square noughts seems to carry religious overtones without reverting to the particular iconography or symbols of established world religions, a sort of crucifix for Humanists.

The format and apparent content relate to the work of the celebrated New York painters working in the mid 20th century : Barnet Newman, Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns.
63 Quai Laurenti, Menton
This screenprint is based around a black and white photograph taken in 1959 that was keep in AMA’s father’s wallet before buying a first floor appartment in the building whose address was 63 Quai Laurenti, Menton.
ZAPPA
In the Autumn of 1972, Frank Zappa and the ‘Hot Rats’ orchestra gigged in Europe.
AMA developed this screenprint from a photograph of a collage of deteriorating publicity posters, he took a little later in Amsterdam.
The Number 5
This is a straightforward image based on a photograph of the wooden relief Number 5 forming the central character in AMA’s reintroductory work entitled, ‘Number 5 Surrounded by his Associates’.
Beachball Girl
The screenprinted image is taken from a postcard found in Menton, south of France.
Its charm, even then, was the dated nature of the picture. This is the first time when AMA worked with repeating or very similar images.
Anglo Sax en France
A hinged diptych containing some crude elements of language, contrasting candy coloured vowels with sombre and darkly textured consonants chosen for their fricative and explosive values.

Moving from this World to Another
The grain within an offcut of a naturally oily wood suggested a simple image which, with the application of oil paint, evolved into a shrouded character progressing from one place to another.
From there on in AMA simply painted outward.
Transfigured Landscape
A seemingly unfinished canvas found in a second hand shop, looked as though it needed further development.
The simple original composition was strong but mightily raw; it looked as it had possibilities.
Light Organ
Combining his interest in both music and Modern art was the starting point for AMA’s third year studies at Art college.
The ‘Light Organ’ was a keyboard instrument whereby one could play coloured light as though it were music. It was the big one!
